10 Rock Bands You Forgot Were GREAT

6. Warpaint

Warpaint really are unique. All of their records are a mix of trip-hop beats and melodies, laced with just enough rock guitar to give their dreamscape sound a bit of edge.

All the swirling vocals made them impossible to listen to without thinking of Portishead, but that doesn't mean Warpaint sounded derivative.

On the contrary, they managed to reference a variety of influences, from Joni Mitchell to The Pixies, whilst maintaining a contemporary sound very much their own. They certainly were not concerned about making their inspirations known, with two of their biggest tracks being named after The Notorious B.I.G. and Dr. Dre.

It was the driving bass lines giving a constant sense of motion to their tracks that really elevated this band. They gave the world some of the thickest sounds likely to permeate an ear drum. This was music to listen to late at night with the finest bass speakers you could find.

It's a shame the girls haven't released a new record since 2016, but even if we don't get another one, their first three albums are hard to get tired of.
