10 Rock Bands You Forgot Were GREAT
5. Pond
Although Pond are still very much churning out great records, they often get overshadowed by Kevin Parker's Tame Impala. Lead singer Nick Albrook was a significant touring member of Impala in the early days, and multi instrumentalist Jay Watson has remained a member of both acts since they were founded.
In those days, there were so many interchanging of members between the groups, that early records were pretty indistinguishable from one another, but that's no bad thing.
These guys created that uniquely Australian brand of psychedelic rock that was coming out during the late 2000s and early 2010s. At first it could have been anyones bet who would become the big hitters.
Now, both bands have moved into a more synth-pop orientated form of psychedelic music, but Pond have remained in that underground territory reserved for cult musicians and music purists. Think of Pond as the slightly more rebellious little brother of Tame Impala.
If Kevin Parker's music has become a bit too saturated with commercialised melodies for you, then go check out Ponds earliest records, hell, even their newer stuff is great.
