10 Rock Music Bands That Replaced Their Singer
5. Motley Crue
The hair metal scene may have gotten started with Van Halen, but Motley Crue were the ones to truly perfect it. After following in the footsteps of some of their favorite bands, seeing the Crue come out of the Sunset Strip scene felt like seeing two genres collide, taking the intensity of punk rock and combining it with the theatrics that you saw out of bands like KISS and Sweet from the '70s glam scene. Their charisma almost made them look like a rock and roll family, but the original lineup was bound for divorce court.
After Dr. Feelgood gave them the greatest sales numbers they had ever seen, the band started to butt heads about where to go next, leading to Vince Neil either quitting the band or being fired depending on who's side of the story you listen to. Even though this should have spelled disaster by disrupting the chemistry, new singer John Corabi actually gave it a fair shot on the band's self titled record, going for something that was a bit more metallic and having guitar chops that could trade licks with Mick Mars.
Given that the sales were basically crickets for this album though, it was a no brainer for management to see if they could get Neil back in the band. Then again, if we had to slog through the industrial mess that ended up being Generation Swine, it might have been worth it to see what the Corabi era had laying around for a potential sequel.
