10 Rock Music Collaborations No One Could Have Predicted
8. Within Temptation & Xzibit
Nothing quite says "worlds colliding" than a Dutch, female-fronted symphonic metal band collaborating with an American hip hop star who took Need For Speed Underground 2 way too seriously.
Following the release of their 2011 album The Unforgiving, Sharon den Adel-led sympho rockers Within Temptation began experimenting with their output, initially beginning with the 2013 compilation The Q-Music Sessions where the band covered some of the biggest pop acts in the world, including The Who, Bruno Mars, Enrique Iglesias and Swedish House Mafia.
This experimentation continued into their next studio album, 2013's Hydra. Not only did it see a return of guitarist Robert Westerholt's harsh vocals since their 1998 debut, but it also saw a number of collaborations, including Howard Jones, Tarja Turunen, Dave Pirner, and er... Xzibit.
The former Pimp My Ride host was fresh off the back of his first album in six years Napalm, and wrote the rap verses himself, having had no prior knowledge of the Netherlands outfit.
Strangely enough though, the contrast of den Adel's melodic delivery and Xzibit's deeper rapping working surprisingly well. Answers on a postcard about that music video though.
