10 Rock Music Guitarists Who Outshone Frontmen

3. Dimebag Darrell - Pantera

The biggest draw that comes with being in a rock band is the attitude that you bring across. Whether it's making some kind of mystique like KISS or wanting to bring a message to the world like The Beatles, it's always the attitude that's nearly as important as the music you're making.

Though Pantera may have sounded scary when you heard it, you were in for a damn good time when you had Dimebag Darrell behind the guitar.

Granted, Pantera couldn't have gotten to where they are today without the help of Phil Anselmo, who's amazing bass register became one of the most brutal sounds in metal on albums like Cowboys From Hell. When you're talking purely from a musical standpoint though, Dime practically wipes the floor with everyone in the band, bringing with him little hints of magic across one of his solos.

More than that, the man was practically a cartoon character every time he took to the stage, pulling off lead licks like it was nothing and giving it more than 110% at every single gig he played.

When off the stage though, the best part of Darrell was just how normal he was, looking like just a normal dude who happened to have the chops of a guitar legend. Even almost 20 years after his passing, we're still talking about Dime's spirit as if he's still among the living.
