10 Rock Musicians With Surprising Day Jobs
1. David Lee Roth (Van Halen) - EMT
David Lee Roth might be the most enthusiastic 67 year old going. During the 1970s and '80s this guy was the epitome of what it meant to be a rock star, all the guys wanted to be him and the girls wanted to... , well, you get the picture.
But the wild excitement of jumping in front of crowds of adulating fans wasn't enough to satisfy his lust for life.
Roth's list of hobbies reads like a Tinder profile desperate to seem as interesting as possible. But with this guy, it all seems genuine. Outside of the cycling, canoeing, painting, and various martial arts, Roth has spent a number of years working in the emergency services.
At the age of 50 he decided he wanted a new adventure, not only that, he wanted to people. Talking to Joe Rogan, Roth revealed his father (who worked closely with AIDS patients in the '80s) installed a strong sense of empathy in him.
This encouraged Roth to spend several years riding around in a New York ambulance and responding to a range of emergency calls. Imagine freaking out on acid, calling for help and having one of the biggest rockers in history come talk you down. Your trip certainly just took a turn for the better.
