10 Rock Songs NOT Sung By The Lead Singer
8. Coffee and TV - Blur
Damon Albarn has become one of the most eclectic musical icons of the modern age. Long before he became the mastermind behind the fictional band Gorillaz, his work with the Britpop titans Blur pumped out some of the best rock tunes of the late '90s. Though the band finally broke stateside with "Song 2" in 1997, the band got a change of scenery once they put out "Coffee and TV."
For a band that always moved forward in their musical evolution, this track feels like a lost relic from the band's Britpop days, with guitarist Graham Coxon at the helm instead of Albarn.
This seems a bit odd on first listen thanks to Albarn's apathetic croon, but Coxon's softer delivery when talking about his struggles with alcoholism has enough raw nerves to make your ears perk up.
In fact, the singing in the chorus where Coxon switches to falsetto sounds fairly close to Albarn's trademark high vocals, but the idea of using coffee and TV to distract yourself from dealing with your problems is something that is all his own. For a band that was always known for their more cynical view of everyday life, this is a decent slow jam that never loses its disturbing allure.
