10 Rock Songs Ripped Off From Other Songs
6. Only Wanna Be With You - Hootie and the Blowfish
Over the years, Hootie and the Blowfish have begun to garner a bit of a reputation as your dad's favorite rock band. Crossing genre boundaries everywhere they went, their unique brand of smooth acoustic and Americana style rock and roll was just what a lot of people needed to get over the grunge phase. When you're paying tribute to the classics though, it's probably best not to lift the lyrics directly from the source material.
Out of all the '90s feel good songs, Only Wanna Be With You is one of the dopiest love songs ever written, with Darius Rucker even admitting that he tried to write the most sappy lyrics he could. Things get a little strange though when he starts to talk to his girlfriend about his love for Bob Dylan, and proceeds to quote him directly in song.
It would have seemed cute to just throw in a random line here and there, but no. The second half of the second verse to this song is literally just the lyrics to Idiot Wind just reformatted into a different song. You better believe that Dylan eventually got his just due on this because, as Darius puts it, Bobby's so cool. There's paying tribute to the classics, and then there's just giving up and copy and pasting your influences. I'll give you a wild guess as to which one this is.
