10 Rock Songs That Are A Nightmare To Sing
6. Dream On - Aerosmith
When talking about the greatest entertainers to ever touch a microphone, Steven Tyler certainly belongs in the conversation. As much as Aerosmith's music might drift into the world of dad rock a lot of the time, the Demon the Screamin did have an impressive shout on him, and has managed to keep the integrity of his voice into the modern age. Then again, you wouldn't hear that on Aerosmith's first album....until Dream On happened.
During the start of their career, Steven Tyler was originally unsure of his vocal style, almost going for a mix of the bluesy belters that he was hearing from the British Invasion. Although this style of singing has its place, Dream On marked the moment where everything came into view, with his voice reaching further and further as the song goes on.
And then the bridge happens, where Tyler reaches the top of his range by hitting on a tone that falls somewhere between the screams of metal and the husky vocal delivery you would get from someone like Robert Plant. To this day, there are still people using this to show off their vocal talent, working out every single piece of the male vocal range before coming to a sharp drop towards the end. While not necessarily the most straightforward vocal take in the world, getting the inflections of every single syllable correct has alluded the world over.
