10 Rock Songs That Killed Bands' Career

5. Humans Being - Van Halen

Most of the tracks that we've seen thus far have come down to them just being bad songs that killed an artists' momentum. It's never easy to keep the magic going forever, and you're always bound to run into trouble here and there whenever putting together a decent track. But Humans Being is the most cut and dry career killer we've got on here...it just ended Van Halen.

By the time the Hagar era of the band reached the '90s, they were coming off a commercial low point, having put out one of their more basic albums in Balance. When they were asked to make a new song for the film Twister though, Sammy was none too happy about being called into work. Having gone through the rigorous tour for the previous album, it was time for the band to take a break from each other and come back refreshed, which was not the energy that came when they hit the studio.

While the song Humans Being ended up turning out alright, Sammy left that session absolutely exhausted and announced his departure from Van Halen shortly afterwards. Also, if there's any indication that this was the death of Van Halen, look no further than what they released directly after, with Gary Cherone being brought in for Van Halen III. Van Halen may have been a legacy act at that point, but there was no continuing on after a fallout this bad.
