10 Rock Songs That Waited Years Before Being Released
1. True Love Waits - Radiohead
One of the best ways to make sure a song is reacting is to play it to the fans directly. Nothing gets in the way of the live performance, and hearing a song in its most raw form and having people still love it is usually a good sign to keep going in that direction. And Radiohead finally found the key to True Love Waits…it only took them 20 years to actually realize it.
Thom Yorke had already written the song during the days of the Bends back in the ‘90s, and it felt like the only time it would see a release would be as a live cut, as evidenced by it turning up on the live compilation I Might Be Wrong. When a Moon Shaped Pool started to get its more morose feel as the project went on, Thom dusted it off one more time, switching to a piano instead of an acoustic guitar this time around and putting in different glitches of sound in the mix as well.
Given the fact that Thom had just separated from his partner less than a year before, this entire song feels like a final goodbye to his old flame, with the electronic sounds almost serving as the final memories of her starting to slowly slip away. Radiohead were always known as the kings of melancholy, and all those years in the can made for a song that could rip your heart right out of your chest.
