10 Rock Songs That Were A Nightmare To Make
9. Whatever - Oasis
You can imagine most of the Oasis recording sessions being a bit of a nightmare even at the best of times. As if the Gallagher Brothers' sparring sessions on the live stage weren't enough, just imagine them put into a room together trying to sort out everything wrong with their latest classic. In the case of Whatever though, the fact that they even got it right once is honestly a miracle.
For years, Noel has always been a bit suspect of this version of the song, saying that Liam was never quite able to sing the first verse the way that he wanted to. Aside from the massive string arrangement going on behind them, Liam managed to at least bring his trademark Manchester accent to the forefront, giving his usual John Lennon by way of John Lydon vocal approach. Though that one day in the studio proved to be special, everything hit the fan whenever they would play the song live.
Even in the most high profile of gigs, you would see both Liam and Noel getting into rows onstage over Liam not getting the notes right, often followed by Noel singing the song with Liam retreating to the side of the stage. While most of the other Oasis tracks seemed to appear out of the air, this is the one track where you can really feel the workmanship put into it.
