10 Rock Songs That Were A Nightmare To Make
7. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Anyone who has come within a five mile radius of rock radio in the past century has more than acclimatized themselves with Born to Run. Taken as a whole experience, this one song packs everything great about Bruce Springsteen into a single track, from the triumphant rock and roll chords to the tale of two down on their luck nobodies wanting to escape their burnt out town. For as lush as the record sounds though, getting the song into that shape proved to be way too labor intensive.
Looking to combine the Phil Spector production with his own trademark sound, this single track had more hours put into it than most artists put into entire records. Working for months at a time, Springsteen would talk about returning home from the studio weather beaten, always frustrated at coming just shy of the perfection he was looking for.
Almost giving up entirely and putting out a live record, the additional time proved to be worth the wait, quickly finding its way onto rock radio before the record was even finished production. More than just the track, Springsteen had really hit his stride for the first time, shaking off the Bob Dylan tags and becoming the real voice of the new age of rock and roll. While Bruce may have been working things out at the time, this is the song that really made him earn the title of the Boss.
