10 Rock Songs That Were Written As A Joke

7. Glorified G - Pearl Jam

Over the years, it seems that Pearl Jam has had more drummers behind the drum kit than Spinal Tap. Despite finding a permanent replacement in Matt Cameron at the start of the '00s, the original drum stool was a virtual revolving door, with each record seeming to have someone else providing the backbeat. Though Dave Abbruzzese was a nice fit for a while, that's not to say there wasn't a little bit of bad blood at work.

Compared to the main players from Seattle, Abburuzzese was from Texas and was just talking about two firearms that he had just purchased. Yeah, bringing that up in the presence of known pacifist Eddie Vedder wasn't going to fly, with Abbruzzese covering himself by saying that they were glorified versions of pellet guns. A worthy recovery for sure, but Vedder wasn't done being salty.

Going into the recording for Vs., Vedder channeled the new drummer's conversation into Glorified G, which was a takedown of toxic masculinity and the need to arm yourself. It wasn't exactly subtle either, with the chorus being Abbruzzese's verbatim response to Eddie's offhanded dismissal of his new toys. While Vedder might have been able to settle into the band's groove for a little while longer, it was clear from this song alone that Abbruzzese's tenure in the group would be shortlived.
