10 Rock Songs That Were Written For Somebody Else

1. Here There and Everywhere - The Beatles

Somewhere along their ascent into Beatlemania, both John Lennon and Paul McCartney had developed their own unique styles of writing love songs. Though Paul was the Cute One who wrote romantic songs to woo the girls, you also had John on the other side writing love songs that were a touch paranoid about where to go after you've been in love for so long. He was still an admirer of his writing partner though, and Here There and Everywhere stands as one of the only Beatles song that Macca got a legitimate compliment out of John.

When the Fabs were touring and writing material for what would become Revolver, John had said that McCartney's breezy love song may be one of the best songs that either of them had brought to the table. Which is funny to look back on because when Paul was originally going into the control room to sing it, he wasn't really thinking about it as a Beatles track at all.

Having been known to give songs to their friends like the Rolling Stones and eventually kickstarting the careers of young bands like Badfinger, Paul was thinking that this song would have made a great single for Marianne Faithfull, and what you're hearing on the final version of the song is Paul trying to contort his voice to reach the same type of innocence that Marianne had in her voice. For the time being though, it looked like Marianne Faithfull would continue on in the pop world, and The Beatles would claim this perfect love song as their own. Then again, The Beatles never really claimed to be snobs about music, and between the off the wall sounds of other songs like Love You To and Tomorrow Never Knows, they had more than enough room for pop music in the mix as well.
