10 Rock Songs Too Weird To Get Big
2. Pink Eye on My Leg - Ween
When it comes to weird music, Ween almost deserve a place next to Frank Zappa in terms of raw absurdity. Hell, some of Ween's first few albums are affectionately known as "brown" because of how...let's say avant garde they are in their song construction and production. Even when they clean up nicely on albums like the Mollusk, that weird mojo hasn't gone anywhere on Pink Eye on My Leg.
Despite indirectly inspiring Steve Hillenburg to create SpongeBob, this is still one headtrip of an album, which can be distilled into this one instrumental. Without having any really connection to the sea, the actual construction of the tune makes you feel like you're venturing into Bikini Bottom for the first time, as a random industrial synthesizer guides you through most of the tune. This kind of interlude would have been weird on its own, if not for the random bits of dogs barking across your speakers in the middle of the song along with the random moaning noises.
Then again, it's pretty much understandable why something like this wasn't a chart smash in its day, if only for the anticommercial name alone. For any casual fan of weird rock, this is still a great venture into the nutty side of things, as well as mandatory listening for any SpongeBob aficionado.
