10 Rock Songs With Horrible Backstories
7. Daddy - Korn
Most nu metal devotees would be shouting that half of this list could have been made of the JNCO jeans brand of metal music. When you look back on a lot of the stuff that made it to the top of the charts back in the day, Limp Bizkit and Staind seem to be more concerned about complaining about things that shouldn't really matter anymore. With Korn though, Daddy is painfully real and somewhat off putting if you're not ready for it.
Not even wanting it to be on the album, Jonathan Davis originally wrote this song in response to him getting molested as a child and his family not believing him. Out of all the songs on this list, this one just feels dirty from the moment you hear it, with Jonathan opening up about his problems and actually breaking down during the final take of the song.
Apparently the vibe in the room was so bad that the rest of the band eventually came into the vocal booth after Davis was finished the vocal take and gave him a group hug. And believe me, he probably needed it at that point. Because this wasn't just your standard angsty nu metal song. This was the sound of a man laying a piece of his soul onto the tape.
