10 Rock Songs With Really Disturbing Endings
8. I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away The Ending - The New Radicals
At the start of the '90s, it seemed like everything was getting a lot happier in the world of pop rock. Since grunge started everything off on a pretty dour note, the likes of Green Day and Third Eye Blind were giving us songs that sounded like things were about to get a whole lot better. And the New Radicals practically hit the ceiling with hipster optimism on You Get What You Give...until you listened to the rest of the album.
Coming right after one of the greatest hits of the late '90s, I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away the Ending is one of the biggest left turns you will ever find from a band. Going through the story of a couple on the wrong side of the tracks, we get to see all of the gory details of their relationship play out in real time, going broke and turning to making adult material to get drug money.
By the time the girl's father confronts them about this, he accidentally overdoses on cocaine in their house and the couple ends up salvaging his body parts and selling them. Mind you, this is still the same band that made You Get What You Give, and they're writing a song that feels like something that should belong on some crusty punk record. Coupled with the fact that the music still sounds the same, this is one of the biggest bait and switches that you will ever get between the tone of the music and the lyrics you're hearing.
