10 Rock Songs Written Completely By Accident

1. Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin

When you find yourself in the recording studio, most of the best stuff tends to be carefully rehearsed. Even if you have ideas that you're thinking of on the fly, you never find these little snippets finding their way onto the final tape. In the case of Led Zeppelin though, one of the greatest songs ended up coming from what can only be described as a glorified rehearsal.

As they started to run through songs for their untitled 4th album, Jimmy Page decided to take a break as they were running through the fan favorite Four Sticks. Once they started goofing around, John Bonham started to play the opening drum groove from Little Richard's Keep a Knockin, after which Page came flying in with the riff for Rock and Roll. Depending on who you ask, the band were actually able to get through the first verse and chorus on a whim as they were messing around.

When you have a song like that on your hands though, you stop what you're doing and focus, with the rest of the day spent forgetting about Four Sticks and turning in one of the most rough and tumble tracks of Led Zeppelin's career. It's a little rough around the edges and things might not have been planned, but that's what rock and roll should be about, right?
