10 Rock Songs You Didn't Know Had Big-Name Guest Stars

7. John Frusciante - L'via L'viaquez

The Mars Volta is where most rock fans go if they want more of a challenge from rock music. Formed from of the ashes of post-hardcore band At the Drive In, this progressive rock outfit have made some of the mind-altering pieces of rock to ever surface in the 2000's. Though Frances the Mute is known as one of their most expansive epics, it wasn't short of hooks once you heard "L'Via L'Viaquez."

The song is an absolute thrill ride with some amazing guitar work laced with the maniacal falsetto of Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Even if you couldn't understand what he was saying, it still held together as some of the most powerful rock music of the time. What made it even more awesome was the ensemble that got together to create this epic track.

While many would be quick to sing the praises of Omar Rodriguez Lopez for the guitar work, the lead lines across this track were contributed by none other than John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Given his more minimalistic songwriting in the Peppers, it's nice to hear Frusciante go off in such a chaotic way across this track. With Flea even contributing trumpet to some other tunes on the record, this project seemed to be anointed by the rock gods of old.
