10 Rock Stars That Hated Being Rock Stars
8. John Frusciante - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Anyone who was in the Chili Peppers during the time of Blood Sugar Sex Magik may have been getting some serious deja vu with John Frusciante. After Hillel Slovak lost his battle with addiction, Frusciante filled the hole that he had left with ease, blending in perfectly with Flea and bringing an amazing sense of musicianship into the mix that fueled songs like Give It Away and Suck My Kiss. Just like Hillel though, John also had a bit of a struggle when it came to the spotlight.
Thinking that the Peppers were going to remain an underground band for most of their career, John was blindsided when the album took off, with different press tours being lined up left and right. While it seemed like a dream come true at the time, the pressure started to wear on John, to the point where he would be standoffish during live performances and one infamous SNL show where he could barely play Under the Bridge correctly.
Couple that with an ongoing addiction with heroin, and John was on the way to becoming another rock and roll casualty before he decided to take a break from the Peppers to focus on himself. Though we would eventually see him come back on Californication, this wasn't just about the Peppers losing a guitarist. John was now an addict, and he was about to spend the next few years withering away before he finally got some help. Fame can be alluring, but it can also be a gateway for you to end up in really bad shape.
