10 Rock Stars That Hated Being Rock Stars

5. Eddie Vedder - Pearl Jam

Whenever a rock star finally reaches the top of the food chain, that's where the anxiety starts to set in. For as good as it might seem being the biggest star in the world, there's always that part of your brain that is wondering how long you can stay at that level. You can try to roll with the times, but Eddie Vedder almost intentionally sabotaged his career when Pearl Jam made it big.

Since he was not planning for the band to blow up so quickly, Vedder would get more and more uncomfortable with all of the cameras on him, leading to virtually none of the band's classic songs having proper music videos. Once they started working on the follow up to their massive album Ten, Eddie even tried to push his anti-fame pursuit one notch further, thinking it would be better for him to not give any more interviews and just sell cassettes out of his house instead.

By the time we got to Vitalogy, things started to get a little bit heated between the band, as Eddie took full control and started to bring the band in a more artsy direction that what they originally were. For Eddie though, this was more than just going off the rails. He was always going to be the face of Pearl Jam, and that meant he had give us the most authentic version of himself that he could.
