10 Rock Stars That Hated Being Rock Stars

4. Roger Waters - Pink Floyd

Before Pink Floyd became the band we know today, they were already a bit jaded about their position in the world of rock. Although they may have enjoyed seeing their star get bigger and bigger, they already knew the price of fame when they had to kick out Syd Barrett due to him losing his sanity in the process. So when they became one of the biggest bands in the world, the distant between band and audience started to drive Roger Waters up the wall (in more ways than one.)

For most of the tour for Dark Side of the Moon, the band were known to clash with each other and weren't even on speaking terms when they were working on Wish You Were Here. If you look at the kind of lyrics that Roger was writing around this time though, you're going to see a lot more bitterness towards the corporate side of rock, with Animals being a condemnation of the business mindset and Welcome to the Machine taking on the perspective of a money hungry A&R man.

And for anyone who's ever listened to the Wall, you know this is a topic that runs deep with Roger, as his star power makes him feel more and more isolated from the rest of the world. Though the premise of the Wall would be to tear down the barriers between you and the world, it can also be a sense of comfort for Roger every now and again.
