10 Rock Stars That Hated Being Rock Stars

3. Neil Peart - Rush

In the first few years that he was with Rush, Neil Peart seemed to be comfortable with the press junket just as much as any other rock drummer. As much as he might get tired of doing one interview after another, it was a part of the job and he would always try to go along with whatever he had to do to promote the record. A funny thing happened when they started to get more famous than he would have liked.

As soon as the band started to become superstars off the back of songs like Tom Sawyer, Neil virtually checked out of every bit of the press tours, looking to keep to himself a lot more than usual. This isn't the case of being a stuck up rock star though. Whenever he was asked about it, Neil always said that not meeting people comes from a place of embarrassment, looking to be respected for his drumming rather than being turned into this god like rock figure.

Neil wasn't shy about his emotions in lyrics though, with Limelight being a rare look at just how uncomfortable he feels forming some sort of connection with a fan that he barely knows. Then again, it can be a little hard to gush when you hear his playing, being one of the tightest drummers that the prog rock world had ever seen up to that point. When you look at all of the greatest drummers in rock history, Neil is the ultimate example of someone who was looking to be good at his craft rather than be famous for what he does.
