10 Rock Stars That Went Country (And Nailed It)

7. Bon Jovi

There's always a kind of fine line when you bring up the idea of hair metal artists selling out in later years. These were the pin up stars of MTV at the best of times, so it's not out of the question to try to change with the times once the mile high hair started to go way out of style. And while bands like Poison had a hit and miss trajectory after 1991, Jon Bon Jovi managed to find his calling in Nashville at the turn of the millennium.

Then again, the turn to country for Bon Jovi was a lot more gradual than most. Even though some people like to dive into another genre without a care in the world, some of the band's output in the '90s like These Days hinted at them going in a more rootsy direction. For all of their counterparts that were jumping on the grunge bandwagon at the time, that record had more in common with the heartland rock of Bruce Springsteen, which sent them on a path to focus more on the songwriting than the killer hooks.

By the time they reached records like Have a Nice Day, they actually managed to toe the line between country and rock a lot better, even notching up a hit on the country charts with Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles. You can call it selling out if you wanted to, but the only way that you last this long is if the songs hold up, and these tunes are unbreakable.
