10 Rock Stars Who Never Wanted To Be Famous

4. Neil Peart - Rush

Over the years, the heart of Rush has always been with Neil Peart. While he may not have been in the trenches with the iconic Canadian prog rock trio, the lyrical style and mammoth drumming from Peart since the '70s has really struck a nerve with rock audiences. Then again, you wouldn't have wanted to ask him for an autograph at all though.

Throughout Rush's underground years, Peart was just content to be at the back of the stage, making a second home for himself behind the kit, where he could play his drums without intrusion. As the band started to get more and more popular, Peart was always uncomfortable with the more aggressive forms of adulation he got from his fanbase. Always candid about his stance, Peart often said that he never wanted to have the baggage that came with fame, as he proceeded to just keep to himself reading a book after the show was over.

In fact, Neil's discomfort ironically turned into one of Rush's biggest hits, with Limelight being a dissection of fame and how one deals with it. Even up until Rush's final tour, Neil was normally out the door right after the last note rang out, electing to travel by himself to the next city while Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee worked with the press. Despite being one of the greatest drummers in the world, that never distracted from Peart's relentless humility in both his drumming style and his celebrity status.
