Describing exactly where Mr. Bungle fits, in terms of genre, is a task best left to to hardcore fans of their music, and maybe even they would struggle.
Avant-garde circus metal would describe this particular track, but they've also experimented with funk, ska, classical Spanish melodies and country and western themes. Say what you like about their music, but these guys have one hell of an eclectic range.
This was the bands debut single, and audibly, it's a lot to process. But, combined with the disturbing visuals, shaky camera movements, various off-putting lens filters and a general lack of narrative, it's a wonder that a record label were willing to put this video out. Indeed, MTV banned the video from it's station.
It feels like a deleted scene from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; some horrific trip of unparalleled terror that could only be brought on by the most heroic dose of psychedelics.
As well as lead singer Mike Patton finding success with the band Faith No More, Mr. Bungle have amassed a huge cult following over the years. So, apparently this video struck a chord with people.
