10 Scariest Videos In Rock Music History

6. Lazurus – David Bowie (2016)

David Bowie's final music video was a disturbing, beautiful, humorous and an eerie expression of artistic exploration. Indicative of his final album Black Star, the track and the video were an exercise in David Bowie coming to terms with his own mortality, facing it with all the grace one might expect.

During the filming process, Bowie was informed that his cancer was terminal and that all treatment would be stopped. The video is filled with hauntingly beautiful imagery, referencing Bowie's past, present and impending death.

The image of Bowie laying in a hospital bed, a bandage covering his face with two buttons sewn over his eyes, conjures images of the mythical underworld of Hades, were the dead would be ferried across the river Styx with coins covering their eyes as payment.

The video is filled with symbolic imagery like this. There is nothing more scary than the idea of ones own mortality, but David Bowie faced it down in the only way he knew how - defiantly creating some of the most moving art the world has ever seen.

The video was released on the 7 January 2016. Three days later, David Bowie passed away.
