1. Darby Crash Totally Kills Himself For Fame
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v18sGDxAOE As leader of LAs seminal 80s punk outfit The Germs, Darby Crash had lofty ambitions of being a punk rock messiah. It started with issuing Germs Burns to fans and friends of the band. A Germ Burn consisted of an exclusive cigarette burn given by Crash or one who had already been initiated. To this day, Germs guitarist and later Foo Fighter Pat Smear and Xs Exene Cervenka are proud recipients of this cult-like symbol. Legend has it that they are just two of hundreds who have one. After recording the renowned GI album with Joan Jett as producer, The Germs split up in 1980. Worried that he might not fulfill his destiny of being a punk legend, Darby Crash decided to do something that would have him forever remembered as a martyr to the scene. On December 7, 1980, days after a one-night Germs reunion, Darby Crash committed suicide with an intentional heroin overdose. The ultimate punk rock gesture was made all the more tragic by being virtually overlooked by the media when John Lennon was assassinated the next day.
