10 Shocking Things You Won't Believe Artists Have Done In The Name Of Punk

4. Fear Does 20,000 Dollars Worth Of Damage On Saturday Night Live

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frud5RFtTi0 For most bands, it€™s a dream to get a chance to perform on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest. In 1981 Fear turned that dream into a nightmare for the audience of the Halloween episode of SNL. Bringing with them an entourage of punk kids to act as dancers, which included Minor Threat€™s Ian MacKaye and John Joseph of the Cro-Mags, Fear gave a performance that Lorne Michaels wishes could be stricken from the record books. Backstage before the performance, the entourage managed to destroy any equipment they could get their teenaged hands on. Then, Donald Pleasance (if you don€™t know who he is, shame on you) introduced Fear to the crowd and all hell broke loose. Antagonising the audience throughout, Lee Ving and Fear managed to bring the chaos and anarchy of a punk show onto the sophisticated SNL stage. Bodies were flying everywhere, expletives were tossed left and right, and former cast member John Belushi is in the crowd dancing his head off and having a blast. Now mostly available in truncated clips online, the performance left behind a hefty $20,000 price tag in damages. Unsurprisingly, neither Fear nor any other true punk band would never be asked on SNL again.

Just like Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse, Mickey Galie is the best friend a good time ever had.
