5. 99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger
If you have ever played the Playstation 1 game Tony Hawks Pro Skater then it is almost certain that you will have heard at least one song by Goldfinger. Their song "Superman" featured in a stacked soundtrack where their high-energy ska sound seared it into the memories of gamers everywhere.
Nena were a German band that saw success with the track "99 Luftballons" and its English version "99 Red Balloons". While the original reached number one in the USA and Australia, it was the English variation that topped the UK and Irish charts. They never seemed to be able to emulate the success of this single and faded away after further less well received albums.
A song that has an ability to worm its way into your memory in either of the initial formats, when it gets combined with Goldfinger and their ultra-positive vibe it becomes an earworm to an even greater degree. Featured in a number of films, including Eurotrip and Not Another Teen Movie, there aren't any huge changes applied to the original but fans of either the song or just ska in general would do well to give it a try. Fun, bouncy and easy to listen to.
