6. Hounds Of Love - The Futureheads

It could be easily argued that The Futureheads are a criminally underrated band of the early 2000's. The Sunderland four-piece were a solid indie outfit with catchy tunes and lyrics who never quite reached the heights that they deserved.

While their single "Decent Days and Nights" managed to feature in a number of popular games, their clearest success was with their take on this Kate Bush classic. Managing to break into the top ten in the UK, securing the number eight spot, there is much to admire here for fans of both artists.

The original was released on an album of the same name in 1985 and as a single the following year where it just about managed to break into the top twenty.

The Futureheads replicated the introductory beat with the use of acapella vocals that persist through much of the track and overlay driving guitar to add a little more energy than the original had. The lyrics still reflect the melancholy and trepidation of the original with a little more urgency added and the final product is one that shows that this cover was a sincere tribute by musicians who very clearly respected and loved the original track.
