10 Song Meanings EVERYONE Gets Wrong

5. Hook - Blues Traveler

The entire jam band scene of the late '90s didn't really have to concern themselves with writing very thoughtful stuff. I mean, you were never going to be going to a concert by Phish or Dave Matthews Band and expecting to get deep and introspective, right?

While most of that is true, you do get a few decent gems out in the wild like Hook by Blues Traveler to reel you in.

Hell, there's probably a good contingency of fans who thought that this was just some weird innuendo for something that keeps a spurned lover coming back for more. That is, until John Popper starts talking about it doesn't really matter what he says in these verses.

Even though you're more than welcome to give your interpretation, Hook stands as a dissection of the entire pop machine, as Popper talks about not having to say anything as long as he sings with inflection and sells it properly.

Though most people insist that the rapid fire section at the end doesn't have to mean anything either, that's where the criticism gets kicked into overdrive, as Popper talks about wanting to shatter all of your expectations and show you the background of what goes into making a hit song.

For as much as this song might work well around a campfire, be prepared to get a bit of an education along the way.
