Normally tracks that are released as singles don't qualify as underrated. However, considering what happened after this track was released, Me and Your Mama definitely makes this list. Only a week after the song's premiere, Gambino released Redbone via BBC Radio one. Fans quickly forgot about Me and Your Mama as the latter single took the internet by storm, spawning countless memes.

It's a real shame, as the intro track to the amazing Awaken, My Love serves as an incredible example of the album to follow. The extended intro lulls the listener into a false sense of relaxation, casually building up before hitting you with that epic guitar riff. The heavy hitting instrumental is complimented by one of Glover's best vocal performance to date. The vocals on this album as a whole are often compared to Prince but this song in particular proves he really is deserving of such high praise.

Initial reaction by shocked fans seemed to be mostly negative. It was a dramatic departure from the previous releases, featuring heavy focus on the gospel choir and Sixties era funk sound. But despite leaving out his signature rapping, Me and Your Mama was the beginning of Gambino's most successful album to date.
