10 Songs By The 1975 You've Been Sleeping On
3. The Ballad Of Me And My Brain
'I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It' was an album packed with 17 songs on the basic release and it is an incredible opus that drags the listener from sheer arrogance in the opening to devastation in its conclusion - truly a masterful effort by the band to convey themselves to their audience.
Amongst the 'Love Me' arrogance, 'The Sound' and it's love story themes and the heartbreaking 'Nana' comes a song that gives yet another insight into the mania of Matty Healy's mind: 'The Ballad of Me and My Brain'.
A real rapid fire, guttural, almost staccato vocal track leads easily the loudest song on the album but it isn't just the magnitude of the track that makes it so appealing; it's so very relatable.
Matty talks of going mad, working in Sainsbury's, checking in the car for something he'd lost - is he really talking about losing his mind or is this a convoluted chatter about addiction, narcotics and losing grip on reality?
Decide for yourselves but this short burst of mania is far more than it seems on the surface.
