10 Songs We All Know The Words To (But Wish We Didn't)

1. Hey Mickey €“ Toni Basil

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW7VnHnX3LQ With these two words, there really isn€™t any reason to carry on. It€™s already in your head isn€™t it? In fact you€™ve probably sung the whole song. Hey Mickey is not the best-selling song of all time €“ only reaching no.4 on the UK charts and 2 million sales in America €“ however it has a massive legacy. Over enough time all catchy tunes become richer with replayability, and this 1982 repetitive tune is a diamond. However when looking at the lyrics it seems that this Mickey guy is a bit shifty. He€™s out all night and ignores this crazy girl who is throwing herself (and her virginity) straight at him. Not to assume that Toni Basil was a virgin €“ she was 40 when this song came out €“ but the use of the cheerleader uniform and upbeat tonality suggests a youthful tonality; definitely one for the high school generation. Indeed this song has everything; catchy beats, simple lyrics, and a very horny cheerleader, albeit one who's probably got a portrait getting uglier and less enthusiastic in her attic. And if that wasn€™t good enough this song has been featured in some of the greatest movies and TV shows of all time! It is massively famous with cheerleading movie Bring It On, and even makes an appearance in Wayne€™s World. Beloved Phoebe from Friends sings it when she€™s up all night, and even Bart Simpson makes a reference to it, changing Mickey for America; which is only slightly better. Any more you think we missed? Throw them in the comments below and let€™s collectively try to remember to forget.
