3. Barbie Girl Aqua
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyhrYis509A After Britney hit our faces one more time in 1996 we were plagued with Barbie Girl by Danish band Aqua. Britney in a schoolgirl outfit was a bit on the nose, but the 8 million hard copies and 111 million hits on YouTube for this song is another story entirely, as we succumbed to a slice of Danish weirdness. Although Barbie is a famous American fashion doll who teaches girls to aspire to be blonde, patriotic and do nothing with their lives but live on a Malibu beach and spend someone elses money, the video featured people that look nothing like Barbie and Ken, containing ominous subtitles in Japanese with sickly bright colours like a twisted cartoon. The lyrics that life is plastic and fantastic were perfect in influencing young girls to live a carefree life, because who needs to work and be clever and interesting, right? We know where Twilight got its inspiration. The repetitiveness of the song and its two different parts, shes a Barbie girl and lets go party, make it stupidly highly easy to learn, and its fun pop-beats wrap their well-manicured claws around you to dance and join in against your will.
