10 Songs That Broke Up Bands

6. Woman Machine - Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper has permanently etched himself into the pages of rock history. At a time when most rock stars were testing the limits of what you could do onstage, Cooper arrived on the scene looking like a pure demon, hellbent on delivering some of the most savage rock and roll to your children's eardrums. His live shows may have been unstoppable, but many forget that Alice was more than just one guy in the beginning.

As the group's stage shows became more and more about Alice's grotesque practices, the rest of the band started to get a bit wary about the fact that people weren't as concerned with the music when coming to see them play live. Looking to get back to their roots, the band had written a song called "Woman Machine" and were determined to include it on the next album Muscle of Love.

While the tune has a decent enough riff, its failure to light up the charts ended up bruising more than a few egos. After years of serving as the sideshow to Alice's antics, the rest of the band ended up leaving shortly after the album was completed. Alice did eventually pull off a solo career off the strength of Welcome to My Nightmare, but this song ended up being the final hoorah for one of the most savage live acts of the early '70s.
