10 Songs That End On Cliffhangers
6. 22 Acacia Avenue - Iron Maiden
Throughout Iron Maiden's groundbreaking album Number of the Beast, we are introduced to different demons that permeate everyday life. When the album was not scaring you to death, you were being treated to the more seedier sides of London on "22 Acacia Avenue."
The whole song revolves around this specific address where an assortment of prostitutes and drug dealers congregate night after night. In this dark underbelly of the city, these prostitutes are mistreated by their customers, who abuse them and even leave some of them dead in the street. Amid all the mayhem, there is the innocent Charlotte, who had been a character in previous Iron Maiden cuts.
Upon visiting Charlotte, our protagonist can't help but see the dangerous life she has chosen to lead. While Charlotte may be looking to make money, she is told there is much more to life than just the money of abusive men. Determined to get out of this hell hole, the protagonist tells Charlotte to pack her bags and come with him somewhere far from this sad reality. We're never given the specifics or where they are going, but we know it's far from the life of a streetrat. Whether it's good or bad, finding the courage to climb out of 22 Acacia Avenue seems like a feat in and of itself.
