10 Songs That End On Really Depressing Notes

7. 45 - Shinedown

Shinedown are possibly one of the most underrated bands in rock music today. Their unique sound and style set them apart, as well as the simply incredible vocals of lead singer Brent Smith. While heavy and fast is their bread and butter, they have been known to knock out a ballad or two. 45, however, is something completely different to anything else in their back catalogue.

The song is sung from the perspective of someone deeply troubled and depressed, ready to end their life, as the title refers to the kind of gun they are contemplating killing themselves with. It's a harrowing chorus that doesn't beat around its subject.

The entire song is incredibly emotional, particularly the acoustic version where Smith pours so much passion into the performance you can't help but feel something. However, performed with no less passion, but on a more tender level, the final words are some that stick with you long after the song has finished.
