10 Songs That End On Really Depressing Notes

6. Watch Over You - Alter Bridge

There aren't many bands in today's music landscape like Alter Bridge. Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips add up to much more than the sum of their parts, producing some truly special music. Every song has a meaning, and though more often than not they are based around crushing riffs and pounding drumming, their softer side comes out from time to time.

Kennedy could sing the phone book to you and you'd be mesmerized by his performance, and Watch Over You is certainly one of his best. Usually stripped down to just Myles and an acoustic guitar when played live, there is a wonderful amount of passion and sorrow that goes into playing it.

With most Alter Bridge songs, the true meaning of the lyrics are open to interpretation, but Watch Over You seemingly tells of someone worried about the well being of a loved one after they have passed away. This is a horribly relatable topic, as just everyone at some point in their lives has feared death.

"Who'll watch over you when I've gone away?" could even be Kennedy singing from the point of view of his father, who died when the singer was just a young child, speaking to Myles himself. If that doesn't leave you welling up then nothing will.
