10 Songs That Got Their Own Sequels
6. Livin on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
Compared to the rest of the hair metal bands coming out around the same time, Bon Jovi always had a little bit more sincerity in their delivery. Being from New Jersey instead of the Sunset Strip, you always felt a sense of honest passion in what they did, as Jon wrote lyrics that were far more relatable than the party anthems from Poison and Motley Crue. Even when they dropped the whole hair metal label, it's not like these guys weren't still proud of where they came from.
At the dawn of the '00s, Bon Jovi became one of the few hair metal bands to survive into the next millennium, with It's My Life becoming the biggest hit they had had since the '80s. Although the Max Martin style production is a far cry from the likes of something like Slippery When Wet, Jon did drop a bit of nostalgia in here by namechecking Tommy and Gina from the song Livin on a Prayer.
While the reference itself may have just been an in-joke between the fans and the band, the message behind the song all but confirms the story that was resolved back in the '80s. It would seem that Tommy and Gina finally did find their way to a better life...they just had to wait almost 2 decades to actually get there. But hey...better late than never.
