10 Songs That Got Their Own Sequels
4. The Heart Part 3 - Kendrick Lamar
When it comes to the modern stripe of hip hop, Kendrick Lamar probably has the single most consistent discography out of anyone else working. Despite only having 4 real albums to his name, over half of his catalog is bound to go down in history as one of the greatest streaks of any other act to touch a mic. Although his madness is reserved for his proper albums, one of the greatest hype machines in his body of work actually originated on one of his mixtapes.
As a conscious hip hop track, the Heart Part 3 is already a killer track, showing Kendrick in his element with subtle wisps of his time as K Dot before graduating to his current stage name. Though most people expected Kendrick to be miles away from this kind of track after To Pimp a Butterfly, we were graced with The Heart Part 4 in 2017, with a subtle hint at what was to come in the final verse.
While Kendrick absolutely slays his competition from a raw execution standpoint, the final lines of the audience having until April the 7th to get their sh*t together had many fans perplexed. What followed came one of the most adventurous albums Kendrick had done yet, with Humble kicking everything off on the 7th before releasing the Pulitzer Prize winning Damn just a few months later. Aside from the actual song, this is one of the best ways we could hoped for when Kendrick began his post-Butterfly transformation.
