Many of us have probably found ourselves singing along to this song, bobbing our heads up and down or however we choose to dance in the car. While the song does have a positive message, the reality of the story it is telling is one of despair and helplessness. It is about the fate of the eponymous town after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and is billed as a conversation between two citizens who know their city is doomed. Perhaps not the saddest on this list, but certainly more morose than on first appearance!
