10 Songs That Tricked You Into Thinking They're Happy

9. Torn - Natalie Imbruglia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1XWJN3nJo Another catchy and well-performing single, Torn is actually a cover of an American band called Ednaswap who wrote the original in 1995. Covered since by the likes of One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen, the song has proved popular amongst a wide range of people, and it's easy to see why. However, its real meaning is disputed. Most people see it as a bitter note to a man she once loved who turned out to be nothing like she imagined. Her disappointment in his true nature seems to be the motivation behind the song, but the lyrics can be interpreted another way. It seems that is could also be about a sexual assault, also by a man she knew, who she never realised to be dangerous or untrustworthy. Both arguments seem valid, and the lyrics are just about ambiguous enough to lend some gravity to both theories. Either way, the song isn't as 'beautiful' as so many people claim.
"This is how I feel I'm cold and I am shamed Lying naked on the floor Illusion never changed Into something real..."
