10 Songs That Would've Fit Perfectly On The Next Beatles Album (Had They Not Split)
5. What Is Life - George Harrison
Given Harrison's propensity for writing great songs, it would make sense that he would get at least two of his tracks on the next Beatles record. While it almost seems like a shoe-in to put "My Sweet Lord," the ending production makes it feel more like a Phil Spector/George Harrison track rather than a Fab song.
"What Is Life" has a more direct approach that seems to fit in much better with the other members' tunes. Lyrically, this would also be Harrison's showcase for his more intellectual wordplay. At this stage, Harrison was known as the more spiritual member of the group, so it makes sense that his form of a love song reached far beyond just infatuation. The lyrics go much deeper by saying that his love for his wife is what makes his world turn, a theme that had been eluded to on the Abbey Road track "Something."
With the Beatles more open to outside players on their records, this could also be an opportunity for Harrison to bring back Fab favorites like Eric Clapton or Billy Preston to perform on the track. There was a gold mine of great tracks to be found on Harrison's solo record, but "What Is Life" feels like the missing link between the end of the 60's and the beginning of the new Fabs era.
