10 Songs That Would've Fit Perfectly On The Next Beatles Album (Had They Not Split)
2. Back Seat Of My Car - Paul McCartney
If you asked any of the other Beatles about the in-studio griping of their later years, most of it comes down to Paul McCartney's vision. While the band were originally a collective unit putting their unique touch on each other's songs, the ending of the group saw them becoming more particular about every facet of their tunes.
These squabbles eventually led to John Lennon being derogatory towards his former writing partner for making overly-polished music. On the flipside, "Back Seat of My Car" is what happens when McCartney's careful attention to detail leads to something amazing. From the harmonies to the lush production, you can tell that McCartney was heavily influenced by the Beach Boys more orchestrated productions.
The song closes out McCartney's Ram album in a beautiful way, but the way his former bandmates could lend their touches to it could be something even more extravagant. With the instrumentation taking center stage at some points, George Harrison could easily weave a guitar lead over some of these sections while Lennon could use his lyrical prowess to flesh out the story of these runaways abandoning their homes. This may be the brainchild of McCartney, but a great Beatles closing song could be made with all four of the Beatles' minds at work.
