10 Songs The Artists HATED Recording
1. The Unforgiven - Metallica
After years of making letter perfect thrash metal, the members of Metallica were in need of a shakeup.
Drafting in producer Bob Rock, they ended up putting together some of their greatest material for the Black Album, which made them global superstars off the strength of songs like "Enter Sandman." The band may have already sealed the deal with their first single, but the heavy ballad of the record almost cost Kirk Hammett his sanity.
Thinking that he had the perfect solo for the song "The Unforgiven," Hammett came in to lay down his guitar tracks only to have the band immediately discard his idea. Knowing that the song needed to be in fine form, Rock lambasted Hammett during recording, chastising him to write what he called the "Guitar Player of the Year" solo.
After hours of picking at him, Hammett finally was able to reach inside himself to achieve musical perfection.
Becoming more pissed off with himself with each passing take, Hammett finally got angry to the point where he let out all his aggression on the instrument, turning into the solo that was used on the record.
Every artist needs that little extra element to make a song work, but when it comes to metal, all it takes is a musical mind and a ton of rage.
