10 Songs The Artists HATED Recording

3. Maxwell's Silver Hammer - The Beatles

Abbey Road by the Beatles is one of those few albums that you could say reached musical perfection. After months of buried tension between the band members, the Fab Four finally decided to get together for one last artistic statement, whose power hasn't been lost over the half century since its release. There's a lot of magic in this record, but that doesn't mean the album is beloved from front to back.

Being Paul McCartney's first contribution to the album, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" turned into a chore for the rest of the band once they came into the studio. On the surface, this song is delightfully dark with its comedic spin on mass murder, but McCartney's perfectionist mindset pushed him to do countless takes of the song, driving the rest of the band to near madness.

Once the album was finally released, the rest of the band were pretty vocal about their distaste towards the song, with McCartney's songwriting partner John Lennon calling it a piece of garbage.

Even the Quiet Beatle George Harrison got in on the action, saying that "Hammer" was either a song people would love or really hate. Paul McCartney might be known for his more jovial tunes nowadays, but that doesn't mean that that energy translated into the studio.
