10 Songs To Celebrate Your Freedom After A Break Up

7. You Should Be Sad - Halsey

Halsey’s most recent single from her third studio album is a country pop ballad with a twist. She doesn’t hold back in telling her ex (rumoured to be rapper G-Eazy) exactly what she thinks about him.

Halsey has proven herself as one of the most versatile and talented songwriters in recent years. Her musical stylings range from indie pop to R&B to hip hop and electro pop. Most recently, on her album Manic, she took a brief foray into country. Halsey stated that she wanted to write a breakup song and she wanted it to be petty and ”the most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country”. You Should Be Sad is indeed petty but it is also powerful.

Halsey looks back on her past relationship in sadness, not for herself but for this person who is ”not half the man you think that you are”. She also states that she’s glad that she ”made it out without breaking down”. The ridiculously sexy video pays homage to the country ladies who inspired this hit. We’re so glad you dodged that bullet, Halsey!
